Take a few quiet
moments and think about why you're Catholic. If your answer is something like
“because that’s how I was raised” or “my spouse is, so I
thought I’d be” or even “it doesn’t matter since all
Christians faiths are the same”, then maybe your answer is based
more on your circumstance than on your convictions. That needs to
change. Eventually you need to make a conscious decision regarding
your faith and work toward achieving the goal of your faith, which is
the salvation of your soul. (1 Peter 1:9).
Here are some
foundational answers to “why be catholic”:
-
As Catholics, we believe that Catholicism has Jesus as its founder, and that it embodies the FULLNESS OF THE FAITH/TRUTH as taught by Jesus and the Apostles.
-
As Catholics, we submit ourselves to and enjoy the security of having a CENTRAL AUTHORITY that teaches and protects the fullness of the Catholic faith that comes to us from the Apostles.
-
As Catholics, we have an opportunity to experience the human touch of Divine forgiveness through the sacrament of RECONCILIATION.
-
As Catholics, we have an opportunity to partake daily of the Divine food of human preparation, which is Jesus present in the sacrament of the EUCHARIST.
-
As Catholics, we have nearly 2000 years of CHURCH RESOURCES available to help bring us to a closer relationship with God.
These and other Christian living/faith related topics will be discussed in future articles and are intended
to strengthen your foundation as well as provide you with reasons for
the hope that is in you (1 Peter 3:15).
